Why mineral?

Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as the active ingredients — they sit on top of the skin and reflect UV instead of being absorbed. In its 2019 proposed sunscreen rule, the FDA called these the two sunscreen ingredients it considers Generally Recognized as Safe and Effective.

The honest tradeoff: Mineral SPF leaves a slight white cast — especially on darker skin tones. Tinted versions handle most of it. If you want the sheerest finish, start with the Neutrogena.
